Structural sawn timber should be sound and without bark. Wood infected by fungi and controlled by pests (visible runs, discolouration, holes) should not be used because its technical strength is impaired. Ideally, the moisture content of the wood should be between 15 and 18% (air-dry wood). It is worth remembering that wood that is too damp (>30%) has a significantly reduced bending strength (by approx. 70%) compared to air-dry wood. On the other hand, wood that is too dry (<15%) is too susceptible to mechanical damage.The best is wood with a smooth surface (planed, chipped) because it is less susceptible to moisture and insect infiltration and is therefore less susceptible to biological corrosion than wood straight out of a saw.The moisture content of the treated wood should be max. 25%. Note: The higher the specific gravity of the wood, the worse its absorbability. Before impregnating, it is therefore advisable to check the properties of the species concerned in order to select the right product and application method.
Prepare a 5% solution (dissolve 5 kg of product in 95 l of water).
A 3% solution (dissolve 3 kg of product in 97 l of water) is suggested for pressure impregnation in autoclaves.
Apply to the wood surface by painting or spraying several times. The number of treatments depends on the absorbency of the wood; it should ensure that the correct amount of product is applied.
Immersion tank impregnation is applied by soaking the wood for 4 hours in a 5% solution.
Protect from rain for min. 72 hours after impregnation. Drying proceeds best when the wood is laid on spacers.
Wash tools with water.
Wood, whether used indoors or outdoors, should be effectively protected against biological agents which can degrade or completely destroy its properties. However, the effects of weather conditions make additional demands on the wood impregnating agent that must be fulfilled in order for the protection to be effective in spite of rain, sun, wind… The right choice of components in a single product makes DEKOLIT KD EXTRA both effective in protecting wood against a variety of hazards and non-removable. As a result, it can be the main impregnating agent used in professional wood treatment plants.
